what we are solving

Our program addresses three critical issues that impact the educational landscape for Black students and educators:

Urban Planning’s Role in Educational Inequity

Decisions in urban planning have far-reaching consequences on school access and resources, with Black students often bearing the brunt of systemic inequities. Our program is committed to researching these long-term impacts and driving advocacy for policies that prioritize equity in education.

Reimagining Black Educators as Leaders

Black educators have often been undervalued, reduced to cultural tokens rather than celebrated as essential leaders in education. We’re working to redefine their role, positioning them as powerful agents of change in classrooms and communities. By amplifying their voices, we’re transforming the narrative and reshaping educational leadership for future generations.

Building an Educational Pipeline in Isolated Communities

Black students in underrepresented and isolated areas face a lack of both resources and role models in their education. NBEW is bridging this gap by creating a strong pipeline of credentialed Black educators to these communities, ensuring better academic outcomes and fostering Black Brilliance.
